Volunteer Orientation: Tuesday, August 17, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Adoption Center. Click here to send Marty an email asking her to register you for the upcoming Orientation. There will be no July orientation.

Volunteers have many different reasons for helping us in their spare time, from simply wanting contact with animals and meeting new people, to learning new skills before committing to a new career in animal welfare. We could never accomplish all that we do for our animals without our beloved volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer, there are many avenues to explore. Whether you would like to work directly with the animals, or prefer to help in other ways, we have a spot for you. Here are some of the ways you can help:

  • Join the Offsite Team - talk with potential adopters, answer questions and fill out adoption paperwork. Training is provided. Offsites are currently held at the Hamburg PetSmart two Saturdays each month from 10-4.

  • Be a Greeter - welcome visitors to our Adoption Center.

  • Help At Events - We participate in many small events such as Feline Valentine at Artique, Equus Run's Springtime in a Bottle. Jobs include registration, setup and teardown, retail sales, posting event flyers in advance and offsite adoptions.

  • Socialize the Animals - play with them, walk dogs, help with obedience training, snuggle with the cats, give baths, clean ears, clip nails, etc.

  • Take Pet Photos - we list our pets on our website and through PetFinder. Happy smiling pictures of pets are needed!

  • Help with Cleaning - we clean every day from 8 am until noon. You can assist with washing dishes, laundry and toys, scooping litterboxes, etc.

  • Foster a Pet in your Home - Foster families provide temporary care for animals. Click here for details.

  • Help with our Fundraising Events and Programs - help with decorations, setup, registration, etc at Freedom Fest and/or Canine Olympics. Collect Donation Box donations or assist with our Can Recycling program.

  • Help with our Grounds, Building or Vehicle Maintenance

  • Help in the Office

  • Make Humane Education presentations to the community

  • Be a Waggin' Woodford Walker - as a Waggin' Woodford Walker, you'd "foster" a dog for a day, and take the dog into the community, say to a Farmers Market or pet friendly festival.

  • Be a Canine Coach - help us teach our dogs the importance of good manners. Training provided.

WHATEVER IT IS YOU LIKE TO DO, WE COULD USE YOU! Join our important family of volunteers. Whether it’s one day a year, a month, a week or a day, we need you to continue our hard work saving lives! If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer opportunities, please contact Marty Vaughn. We offer an informational Volunteer Orientation once a month for individuals interested in our organization. Please email Marty for dates and space availability.

There is a minimum age requirement of 14 years for all volunteers, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
